What is waterborne polyurethane glue?

Waterborne polyurethane adhesive is a kind of polyurethane dissolved in water or dispersed in water to form an adhesive, also known as water-based polyurethane or water-based polyurethane. In practical applications, this adhesive is mostly polyurethane emulsion or dispersion, and less aqueous solution.

waterborne polyurethane adhesiveIs a polyurethane dissolved in water or dispersed in water to form an adhesive, also known as water-based polyurethane or water-based polyurethane. In practical applications, this adhesive is mostly polyurethane emulsion or dispersion, and less aqueous solution.

Waterborne polyurethane adhesives can be classified according to their functionality, such as vacuum-absorbing plastics. These adhesives have the advantages of good adjustability, low temperature resistance, good flexibility, and high bonding strength. In addition, the aqueous polyurethane adhesive can also be divided into anionic, cationic and non-ionic, of which anionic is the main type.

Compared with solvent-based adhesives, waterborne polyurethane adhesives have lower viscosity and slower drying speed, but they can be mixed with a variety of waterborne resins to improve performance or reduce costs. At the same time, the water-based polyurethane adhesive has small odor, convenient operation, and easy cleaning of residual adhesive.

In specific applications, waterborne polyurethane adhesives are widely used. For example, polyether waterborne polyurethane adhesive has good flexibility and is suitable for bonding soft materials, such as leather, packaging bags, etc.; while polyester waterborne polyurethane adhesive has good crystallization performance and high bonding strength, and is suitable for materials with low surface energy and high hardness, such as wood bonding, PVC board bonding, etc. In addition, waterborne polyurethane emulsion is also widely used as a surface sizing agent for special paper, such as RMB, security paper, etc.

However, waterborne polyurethane adhesives also have some problems, such as relatively low solid content, resulting in lower drying speed and higher transportation costs; slow curing speed, increased energy consumption and reduced production efficiency; and low initial viscosity, limiting its wide application. In order to solve these problems, researchers are trying to improve the solid content, curing speed and initial viscosity of waterborne polyurethane adhesives.
